There are a few standard practices that I have developed over the course of the past decade or two. Now while ALL students will experience them as the semester goes along, I always feel it beneficial to outline them prior to the start of the semester. I think it sets the tone of expectation for students and perhaps greases the wheels of learning as well. If students feel comfortable with the approach and plan of action, the higher likelihood they will start looking for fault everywhere. Because if you look hard enough for anything, you will find it whether it be good or bad.
