Each engineering major has a dominant prerequisite chain that basically controls their date of graduation. The undeniable fact is, if you push back your graduation by one semester, you effectively lost out on 1/2 of a years pay as an entry level engineer for whatever job you get out of college, assuming of course, you get a job right out of college (which will be most engineers).
Now how much could this be? I knew of some Aerospace kids with a 4+1 who came out making 85k a year almost 10 years ago. So for them, one semester was effectively 42.5k. More over, for some classes, they are only offered in the Spring or Fall which means you may even be pushed back a full year due to the prerequisite chain.
Now I don’t say this to scare you or to make you feel bad if you have already had to retake classes within this chain. I say this to give you motivation to study harder and NOT have to retake these classes. So hopefully we can have more engineers in the world, more logic, reason, rationale populous and have faster cures for ailments, better technology quicker, better aircraft / cars / hopefully flying cars / etc…
More engineers make the human race better!
